Heartfelt “Thank You” to Jon Stewart For Defending Our Right to “Offend” Egypt’s President

Sometimes freedom of expression may seem offensive to some cowards…Talk about the theory of relativity

In Egypt, our new president is super-creative in inventing nasty tactics to cover up for his endless failures. The top 3 on the list are in reverse order:

3. Showering opposition and political activists with serious accusations backed up with ZERO evidence!
2. Coming up with the vaguest and most hilarious conspiracy theories!

Now I am saving the best for last…the number 1 nasty failure-cover-up tactic is…drum rolls…prepare to be amazed: Arresting and interrogating media icons and comedians in account for “Insulting the President” and/or “Defamation of Islam!

Lucky for him, Bassem Youssef, the host of the most popular TV show in Egypt, was subject to a 5-hour investigation for the above charges. In response, Egyptians from all walks of life demonstrated in front of the interrogation location, carrying angry signs to support Bassem.

Bassem came out wearing a funny replica of the hat president Mohammed Morsy wore when he received the honorary doctorate in Philosophy. The picture says it all…

Local support for a great cause is commendable yet almost predictable. But my pleasure was compounded when I came across Jon Stewart’s sincere defense for Bassem’s offence!

In case you haven’t done already, I invite you to watch Stewart’s outstanding video.

As expected of him, Stewart’s words were breathtaking and refreshing. (I started watching his shows and became a huge fan of his during the time I lived in Canada: 2002- 2007. Good days!)

As my way of saying: “Thanks a million, Jon”, I wrote the following heartfelt comment on his video:

LOL 🙂 “Democracy NEVER ends by someone mocking your hat!” As usual, Jon nailed it! On behalf of all Egyptians, we all understand that arresting comedians is NO sign of strength! It’s a glaring declaration of failure…The part that touched me most in this video was Jon’s painful comparison between his freedom to “Mock!” presidents for years versus Bassem’s early suppression! But we will keep fighting for the most precious right of all: FREEDOM.

Thanks, Jon. You made Egypt’s day 🙂

I can’t wait to read your thoughts and comments.  Love, happiness and freedom to all…
